The Academy of Public Administration hosted a sectional meeting of the III International Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. The topic of the meeting was "Legal Assessment of Genocide".
Denis Duk, Rector of the Presidential Academy, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. He stressed that it was an honorable mission to organize and hold a section of the conference at the Academy of Public Administration.
- Our strategic allies and partners view the tragedy of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War as a pain that cannot be forgotten. Unlike the opponents who are trying to dissuade us that everything was completely different. There is no doubt in the minds of sane people that there was a genocide, there is no other way to call it. In order to learn from the past and avoid repeating the same tragedy, we must work constructively and continue to study these tragic pages of the Belarusian people's history.
The Rector noted the enormous work done by the General Prosecutor's Office over a relatively short period of time by historical standards. Over the years of Belarus's sovereignty, a vast number of discoveries have been made, including memorial sites, which have helped to shed light on the full extent of the tragedy of the Belarusian people.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Belarus, the Institute for Advanced Preparation and Retraining of the Investigative Committee of Belarus, the Higher School of Jurisprudence of the Institute of Law and National Security of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (Russia), the University of the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation, and the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The participants discussed in detail the demographic damage caused by the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War and its economic assessment, as well as the results of the trial in the criminal case against Semyon Serafimovich, the signs of genocide in the Nuremberg legacy documents and in the criminal law of the Republic of Belarus, and other topics.
