International Mother Language Day Celebrated at the Academy of Public Administration | en
On February 25, first-year students majoring in "State Administration and Economics" at the Academy of Public Administration and "Slavic Philology" at the Belarusian State University participated in "Tvorchy Agenchyk" (The Creative Spark), a literary lounge dedicated to International Mother Language Day. The event was organized by the Department of Language Communication to foster spiritual and moral values and promote the study of the Belarusian and Russian languages among students.
The literary lounge served as a platform to announce the results of the "Matchyna Slova" (Mother’s Word) Belarusian essay contest and to award diplomas to the winners of the Native and Foreign Language Olympiads. The program also featured a meeting between students and prominent representatives of the Belarusian scientific and literary intelligentsia.
Ihar Kapylov, Director of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, delivered a mini-lecture titled "Language: Fr om A to Z." He emphasized to the future managers that proficiency in Belarusian, Russian, and one or two foreign languages is a vital component of their professional competency.
The participants also heard from Elena Stelmah, First Deputy Chair of the Union of Writers of Belarus, publicist, prose writer, translator, and Honored Journalist. In her speech, she focused on the necessity of respecting one's mother tongue, traditions, history, and ancestors, while highlighting the enduring importance of reading and literature in the life of a modern person.
During the event, students showcased their talents by performing songs on the guitar and reciting poetry in Belarusian and Russian, as well as presenting English translations of these works.
As a special highlight, participants took part in a literary lottery, wh ere they had the opportunity to win books in Belarusian and Russian personally signed by the authors.
