On information of the Academy’s Vice-Rector Mr. Siarhei Shauruk, experience of latest enrollment campaigns shows that a second university diploma and postgraduate courses are of tremendous popularity at the Academy.
He says that the competition for graduate courses has doubled this year. Thus, there were 378 applications for the major “Public Administration and Law” and 370 – for the major “Public Administration and Economics” while only 180 are to be admitted for each course. In 2009 the number of applications was 365 and 357 accordingly and 120 persons per major were selected.
Mr. Shauruk observed that interest in graduate education increases with each year. And it is quite natural for after receiving an undergraduate degree, getting a job, taking first steps in the career ladder and finally getting promoted to an executive position, a person feels a pressing need in upgrading his or her knowledge. Most of the Academy’s applicants decide to acquire a second university diploma in management not only to boost their careers but also to improve their qualifications, to get the best out of their potential. People, who want to switch their occupation and who would need relevant knowledge in the new sphere, also go for a second university diploma.
Vice-Rector reminded that getting a pass in a professional suitability interview was one of the requirements to enroll for postgraduate courses in “Public Administration and Law” and “Public Administration and Economics”. “This preliminary assessment was held in spring and has already revealed that those who aspire to have a second university diploma are usually very initiative, highly educated people with a well defined purpose for choosing us. They want to study at the Academy to get the knowledge applicable in real life and to expand their executive competencies.”
According to Mr. Shauruk, the decisive factors in selecting applicants were as usual their having a cum laude diploma and vast job experience. Statistics of the enrollment database show that there are already 59 applications for “Public Administration and Economics” and 37 – for “Public Administration and Law” from holders of cum laude diplomas. Besides that, 220 candidates have more than 5 years of job experience (118 of them applied for “Public Administration and Law” and 100 – for “Public Administration and Economics”).
