Brief Historical Overview of the Room for Legal Education and Consulting

The Room for Legal Education and Consulting was founded in 1992, its first head was Leo Maximov, a prominent public official of Belarus. In 1995-1996 Tatiana Baturo was in charge of the Room. In 1997 – 2011 Tatiana Sukhnat was its head. Since 2011 Alesia Kasyanchik has been in charge of the Room for Legal Education and Consulting.

General Information on the Room for Legal Education and Consulting

The main objectives of the Room for Legal Education and Consulting are as follows:

  • providing conditions for students to acquire knowledge in law subjects;
  • students’ participation in research and profound study of certain fields of Law;
  • providing the academic process with the current legislation of the Republic of Belarus;
  • methodological maintenance of the academic process in such specialities as Public Administration and Law’ (specializations ‘Law Regulation of Public Administration’, ‘Law Regulation of International Activity’) and ‘Public Administration and Economics’.

Students have access to legal information databases. Among them one can find ‘Etalon’, ‘Consultant Plus’, ‘Garant’, ‘Business-Info’.

The Room for Legal Education and Consulting interacts with the following departments:

  • Department of Administrative Law
  • Department of Civil and Economic Law
  • Department of Constitutional and International Law
  • Department of Theory and History of State and Law

Besides, the Room for Legal Education and Consulting is used for the curriculum development of the departments. The Room contributes to the skill-sharing in research work. Both the academic staff and students can use facilities of the Room for Legal Education and Consulting to prepare for classes.

The Room for Legal Education and Consulting offers lesson plans, teaching aid materials, reviews and references to law subjects as well as publications and other results of the research activities of the academic staff.

All the legislative statutes of the Republic of Belarus dating from 1991 are available in the Room.

The Room offers the following periodicals:

  • ‘The Supreme Economic Court Reporter’ since 1997;
  • ‘The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Belarus Reporter’ since 1998;
  • ‘The National Register of the Legal Acts of the Republic of Belarus’ since 2000;
  • ‘The Law of Belarus’ since 2002;
  • ‘The Commercial Law’ since 1997;
  • ‘The Court Reporter’ since 1991;
  • ‘The World of Law’ since 1991;
  • ‘The Lawyer’ since 2002;
  • ‘The Justice of Belarus’ since 2001.
