Brief Historical Overview of the Department of Business Economics
The history of the Department of Business Economics dates back to September 1991 when the first department of Economics was founded at the Academy of Public Administration under the Aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus.
The Department of Business Economics is aimed at developing its graduates’ professional competences in the effective management of a competitive enterprise.
The Department of Business Economics provides students with training in 2 specialities ‘Public Administration and Economics’ (the Institute of Public and Business Administration) and ‘Economy and Management of an Industrial Enterprise’ (the Institute of Civil Service).
Besides traditional methods of teaching, a variety of advanced educational technologies (role-plays, business games, e-lectures etc.) are widely used in the academic process. All of them aim to provide students with profound knowledge and practical skills, essential for the fulfilment of a wide range of socio-professional tasks.
Academic Staff of the Department of Business Economics
The Department of Business Economics consists of 19 full-time academics, 9 part-time academics and 2 department assistants. There are 2 Doctor of Science, 10 Candidate of Science, 3 senior lecturers, and 1 lecturers among them. Over the last 5 years the Department’s academics have published 8 monographs, 34 textbooks and more than 125 articles.
The Department of Business Economics implements the state scientific research programme ‘History, Culture, Society, State.’
The results from the research are applied to both economic sectors and the academic process. The Department of Business Economics holds the international scientific and practical conference ‘Government Regulation of Economic Life and Upgrading the Efficiency of the Economic Players’ Activities.’
The Department of Business Economics has organized the research society ‘ECON’ for the students interested in scientific research on current economic issues.
Collaboration of the Department of Business Economics with the Public Administration Institutions
The academics of the Department collaborate with the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Industry, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the Republican Council of Conciliation. The academics take an active part in the seminar for political executives and local authorities.
H. Tseleshuk participated in the committee’s working group of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on industry, fuel and energy, transport, communication network and entrepreneurial activity. She took part in drafting the public procurement activity’s bill.
A. Rusak was honoured a title of an out-of-staff arbitrator in labour disputes under the administrative regulation of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus (December 15, 1995). She arbitrated labour disputes between trade unions and employers over a collective bargaining agreement. She sat on the panel of the Republican Labour Arbitration and was honoured with an appreciation letter by the City Executive Committee.
A. Kabouchko took part in working out the programme dedicated to the implementation of the National Safety Concept. She developed a chapter about the National Safety of the Environmental Issues. By order of the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, some research has been done by the Department of Business Economics. The results from this research provide the academic process at the Institute of Civil Service with necessary teaching-aid materials.
The Department of Business Economics aims to develop its international cooperation. It has agreements with the Department of Crisis Management and Financial Management of the North-West Academy of Public Administration (St. Petersburg) and the Department of Economics and Management of Moscow University of Economics, Management, Law (Moscow)
